Purdue Engineering earns its most-ever top 10 undergraduate rankings

Purdue's College of Engineering has set a new record with its highest-ever number of undergraduate rankings in the top 10 in the annual U.S. News & World Report Best Undergraduate Engineering Programs survey.

Purdue’s College of Engineering has set a new record with its highest-ever number of undergraduate rankings in the top 10 in the annual U.S. News & World Report Best Undergraduate Engineering Programs survey.

Nine of Purdue Engineering’s 11 programs achieved top 10 listings for their disciplines in USNWR national rankings released Sept. 23, 2025. The disciplines are:

  • In the top 4: industrial engineering, No. 2; aeronautical and astronautical engineering, No. 3; civil engineering, No. 3; and agricultural and biological engineering, No. 4
  • Also in the top 10: mechanical engineering, No. 8; computer engineering, No. 9; electrical engineering, No. 10; environmental engineering, No. 10; and materials engineering, No. 10

Additionally, the College of Engineering contributed to an increase in Purdue University’s ranking for co-ops and internships to No. 6.

In other notable progress:

  • Purdue Engineering ranked in the top 10 in environmental engineering for the first time.   
  • Among computer science rankings, two specialties moved up to top 10 spots: cybersecurity, to No. 4, and software engineering, to No. 8.

“Our latest U.S. News undergraduate rankings reflect ever-advancing academic and research excellence at scale across our programs,” said Arvind Raman, the John A. Edwardson Dean of Purdue’s College of Engineering. “In line with our vision, this recognition further demonstrates our prominence in nurturing top-quality engineering talent, providing impactful research innovation, and strengthening our state and nation.”

The latest rankings build on other recent Purdue Engineering accomplishments, including:

  • Becoming the nation’s No. 1 producer of engineering degrees
  • Reaching No. 1 in market demand for a U.S. engineering college
  • Earning exceptional USNWR rankings for graduate/research and online master’s programs

U.S. News & World Report Best Undergraduate Engineering Programs rankings are based solely on the judgments of deans and senior faculty at peer institutions who participated in a peer assessment survey. The latest rankings list Purdue as No. 8 overall and No. 5 among public institutions for its undergraduate engineering programs.
