2024 U.S. News rankings boost Purdue’s top 3 royalty to 5 years in a row for online master’s engineering
Uniquely, Purdue pairs a top 4 graduate education/research engineering college with a top 3 online master's program
Purdue’s College of Engineering’s esteemed reputation for innovative, impactful learning and research got a tremendous lift from the latest U.S. News & World Report rankings for the Best Online Master’s in Engineering Programs.
Among myriad distinctions, for the fifth consecutive year, rankings place Purdue online graduate engineering programs as a whole in the top 3. What’s more, Purdue is the only university east of California to appear in the top 3 every year for the past five years.
The Purdue success that pervades rankings released Feb. 7 is part of a larger picture. Purdue is the only U.S. News-ranked institution with a top 4 graduate education/research college of engineering as well as a top 3 online master’s program.
In addition, the college is extending its reign atop online graduate engineering in several fields. Industrial engineering, mechanical engineering and engineering management rank No. 1 in their disciplines – marking the fifth straight year on top for IE and ME and the third consecutive year for MEM.
Also among elite online master’s engineering rankings, Purdue’s civil engineering program is No. 2 for the fourth year running, electrical engineering is No. 3, and programs for veterans are No. 5.

Innovative online education that spans geography and life stages is key to our efforts to expand student opportunities and excel at meeting workforce needs for well-prepared and diverse engineering talent.”
Among other highlights in the new overall online graduate engineering rankings, Purdue:
- Scored No. 1 for the peer assessment portion for the sixth straight year.
- Tied Penn State in the third spot – ahead of three other Big 10 universities in the top 10: University of Nebraska-Lincoln (No. 5), University of Maryland-College Park (No. 6), and University of Michigan-Ann Arbor (No. 8).
- Completed a decade of top 5 rankings.
