ME alumna receives prize from the Dimitris N. Chorafas Foundation

School of Mechanical Engineering alumna Susmita Sarkar, a postdoc at Stanford University, has received a $5,000 prize from the Dimitris N. Chorafas Foundation.

The foundation awards scientific prizes for outstanding work in selected fields in the engineering sciences, medicine and the natural sciences, according to its webpage. Prizes reward research characterized by its high potential for practical application and by the special significance attached to its aftermath.

“I am extremely honored and humbled to have been selected for the 2023 Dimitris N. Chorafas Foundation Award,” Sarkar said. “I am thankful to my advisor at Purdue, Professor Partha P. Mukherjee, for his unwavering support during my PhD. I am grateful to Purdue University for nominating me for this award. I really appreciate the support of Ms. Heather Brinkman during my application. I am truly blessed to have received the encouragement and support of my family throughout my PhD journey.”

Currently, Sarkar is a Schmidt Science Fellow and Postdoctoral Scholar at Stanford University. She’s working with Professor Zhenan Bao in the Department of Chemical Engineering, applying unconventional nanofabrication and material characterization techniques to fabricate flexible, low-cost, electronic devices for affordable healthcare.
