Even though the COVID-19 pandemic led to the Big Ten to postpone all fall sports besides football to the spring, the conference opted to also recognize cross country, soccer and volleyball student-athletes for their academic excellence. To be eligible for Academic All-Big Ten, student-athletes must be enrolled full-time at their university for a minimum of 12 months and carry a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher.

Cross-country runners Curt Eckstein (ME) and Kyle Griffith (CE), soccer's Lexi Marks (CE), and  were recognized as Academic All-Big Ten Honorees for the third time, and football's red shirt senior Brennan Thieneman (CEM) was recognized for the fourth time.
