Mamon Powers presented David Robert Lewis Lecture

On February 26, 2019, the Lyles School of Civil Engineering and the College of Engineering celebrated the legacy and significance of David Robert Lewis, 1894 BS Civil Engineering, Purdue University's first black graduate, with a lecture by Dr. Mamon Powers, Jr. (BSCE '70 and HDR '14) and luncheon.

Following Dr. Powers' lecture, a luncheon was held at the Ross-Ade Pavilion, Buchanan Club with a special video feature showcasing the historical perspective of African Americans in engineering at Purdue

Luncheon speakers included Rao S. Govindaraju, the Bowen Engineering Head of Civil Engineering, Mung Chiang, the John A. Edwardson Dean of the College of Engineering, and Robbie Williams, ChE senior and President of Purdue's Chapter of the National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE), who helped rededicate the NSBE key.
