The OIV is an inter-governmental organization that includes 45 countries for the scientific and technical reference concerning vines, wine, wine-based beverages, table grapes, raisins and other vine-based products.

Each year, the organization selects a graduate student to develop a short-term research project in what the organization classifies as priority fields.

Valero was selected for his research entitled “Sustainable Wine Scoring System Under a Regional Ecosystem Framework for Increasing Consumer Awareness”. The main objective of his research is to develop a Sustainable Wine Scoring System (SWSS) in order to provide a benchmark for different regions, wineries, and wine sustainable performance, providing an “easy-to-understand” representation of wine’s sustainable attributes to consumers.
