Ashley Evans

Ashley Evans has been selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) as a First Team Academic All-American for the first time in her career. The award declares her as the first Boilermaker in Purdue history to be named a three-time Academic All-American as she earned third team honors as a redshirt sophomore and second team honors as a redshirt junior.

Evans is one of four Big Ten selections to the list and she joins Penn State’s Haleigh Washington as the only three-time honorees to earn the Academic All-American nod. They are the first two volleyball student-athletes to garner academic All-America honors three times in the history of the Big Ten and they are the first Division I volleyball student-athletes to secure the award three times in their career since 2007. Just 21 Division I volleyball student-athletes and 47 Big Ten student-athletes have been three-time honorees in the history of the accolade dating back to 1952. Volleyball and other various women’s sports weren’t awarded academic All-America honors until 1982.

The Liberty Township, Ohio, native was recently named the third four-time Academic All-Big Ten honoree in program history and is now a three-time all-district and three-time All-America selection. She's earned the reputation as one of the most academically successful student-athletes to ever walk Purdue's campus and she has done it as a mechanical engineering major.

Of the 21 members of the 2017 CoSIDA Academic All-America© Division I volleyball team, 18 have at least a 3.90 GPA, with 14 student-athletes sporting a perfect 4.0 GPA. Evans and the other six members of the first team have a combined average GPA of 3.98.
