Abstract
Prof. Douglas Boateng, a pioneering figure in industrial engineering, supply chain management, and industrialization in Africa, will deliver a thought-provoking public lecture on the strategic role of engineers in driving Africas socio-economic growth, industrialization, and the Africa Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA). With a focus on how engineering decisions affect long-term development, Prof. Boateng emphasizes the need for a mindset shift towards engineering, industrialization, and value addition. Drawing on his vast experience in governance, industrial engineering, strategic sourcing, and supply chain, he will explore how engineers can be the catalyst for sustainable growth and regional integration across the continent and beyond.
Biography
Prof. Douglas Boateng is an international chartered director, industrial and operations engineer, business strategist, and a consummate social entrepreneur. He holds advanced degrees in company direction, logistics systems, and engineering. In addition to being Africa's first Professor Extraordinaire in supply chain management, he has held various multi-sector C-Suite roles including chairmanship of multinational organizations. Revenues of companies that have benefited from his guidance range from US$4m to US$40bn. He is currently the non-executive chairman of Ghana's Mineral Income and Investment Fund one of the fastest growing sovereign funds in Africa with over US$1bn in assets under management. Additionally, he chairs the Labadi Beach Hotel, one of the most respected and admired 5-star hotels in Africa. making it one of the most profitable hotels in the sub-region. He is also the founder of PanAvest International & Partners and the Boardroom Governance Summit and is recognized globally for his contributions to logistics and governance. He has authored over 90 action research articles and several groundbreaking books including the Executive Insight Series; Compendium of Supply Chain Management Terms and Strategic Sourcing and the Knowledge Development Series comprising Practical Perspectives books on Boardroom Governance, Negotiations, Strategic Sourcing, and Sustainable Development Goals. He has received several awards including the Hewlett Packard (HP) award for contributing to industrialization and supply chain development on the continent.
