Engineering in 2070
Abstract
Engineering in 2070 is the topic for our discussion. As engineers we design, build, operate, inspect and maintain systems that serve a social purpose. The changes that have occurred over the past 50 years are remarkable. Some of these changes were predictable, others not. How will engineering evolve over the coming decades? How will engineering education change? What are the potential intersections of engineering with voter security, public health, travel and transportation, the arts, preservation of public lands, weather forecasting, and drought and flood mitigation? Where do we need to improve in order to best serve society? Will engineering move in new directions? Join us for what promises to be a fascinating discussion with Ron Latanision, Editor in Chief of the National Academy of Engineering’s quarterly, The Bridge. The starting point for our discussion is the special commemorative issue of The Bridge, with 50 short essays looking forward to the next 50 years of engineering.
