Resiliency for the Home Planet

Abstract

Long-term economic and societal development rely on sustainable practices that can combat the increasing frequency and intensity of natural and manmade hazards. Major threats to our wellbeing on this planet include loss in biodiversity, land degradation, and climate change. The cascading effects of disasters and compound extremes cross social, economic, and geographic boundaries. Solutions that leverage the inherent resiliency of natural environments and reduce risks from hazards at multiple spatial and temporal scales are needed. We seek solutions that promote sustainable and equitable social recovery. The panel discussion will shed light on this important topic and discuss innovative solutions to safeguard the planet and build resilience.
