The Grid of Tomorrow Consortium (GoTC) and its kick-off workshop aims to bridge the gap between academic research and industry practice to address the pressing needs of electric power utilities. This consortium aspires to catalyze cutting-edge research and bolster workforce development for the broader evolving grid ecosystem. Positioned at the intersection of electric utilities, the information technology industry, and academic research, GoTC is uniquely equipped to tackle the challenges emerging from the energy transition. The electrification of homes, transportation, and industries (including data centers), combined with the integration of renewable energy resources and shifts in the energy mix, demands significant changes in the planning, operation, and control of electric grids. Concurrently, advances in artificial intelligence and machine learning, the abundance of heterogeneous data, and emerging grid technologies present unprecedented opportunities to enhance grid efficiency, reliability, and resilience.

The College of Engineering invites the Purdue community to join us to hear from experts representing leading electric utilities, the IT industry, and Purdue researchers as they explore the challenges and opportunities related to grid planning, energy management, and the intersection of the electric power grid with AI via our livestream option on January 30 from 1 – 5:30 p.m.  No registration required.

Then, join us from 7-8 p.m. at Loeb Playhouse in the Stewart Center as Purdue Engineering launches our "Visionary Voices," a series of talk show-style chats that Arvind Raman, the John A. Edwardson Dean of the College of Engineering. Raman will speak with inspiring people who will share their stories and views. Our inaugural guest is alumna Patti Poppe (BSIE '89, MSIE '91), CEO of PG&E Corporation, a Fortune 500 company. Purdue honored Poppe with a Distinguished Engineering Alumna Award in 2017 and named her an Old Master in 2019. Click here for more information about the event.
