Sessions on the morning of March 30th:

  • Human Centered Design Applied to Systems Thinking for Global Health Solutions
Dr. Jackie Linnes (BME), Dr. Yuehwern Yih (IE), Greta Wetzel (Save the Children), Steve Visser (Industrial Design)
  • Engineering Solutions for Drivers of Conflict
Dr. Anne Dare (AAAS Fellow), Robert Groelsema (Catholic Relief Services), Chris Seremet (Catholic Relief Services) looks at global drivers of conflict — specifically scarcity of natural resources such as water and land, and identifies the potential role of engineers in solutions to these roots of conflict.
  • Innovation Science Applied to Project Design
Dr. Joe Sinfield (CE) and Dr. Ernest Blatchley (CE and EEE) present their work in applying Joe’s Innovation framework to Chip’s community potable water project in the Dominican Republic. Joe’s framework is based on years of research that enables him and his clients to determine the best characteristics for an innovation that is useful and usable.
  • Engineering Education & Technology Platform with Applied Engineering Projects for Vulnerable Student Groups
Dr. Jennifer DeBoer (ENE), Dr. John Lumkes (ABE) — this session will present Dr. DeBoer’s IT and mixed learning STEM platform for vulnerable youth, incorporating actual Ford Motor Company Project that integrates an agricultural mechanization curriculum with the hands-on components of building the PUP in the Tumaini Center for Street Youth in Kenya.
