Whether your career takes you into university research, a multinational corporation, or the nonprofit sector, you will likely work with colleagues and partners from this increasingly important region. Are you ready to work across cultures?
Engineering Cultures East Asia is a 3-credit study abroad program that can help you prepare for future study, research, or work opportunities in the region, with an emphasis on Japan, Hong Kong, and China. It begins with preparatory meetings to explore relevant history and culture, including discussions of engineering education and practice. You will also learn strategies for working effectively in cross-cultural environments.
For the 10-day Spring Break trip (March 10-20, 2011) we will travel to Kanazawa and Tokyo, Japan, then Hong Kong and Guangzhou, China. Our itinerary includes visits to universities, industrial plants, and other major sites of significance. During the trip we will also continue our studies of history and culture, while observing first-hand how urban infrastructure, transportation systems, manufacturing facilities, research labs, and architecture reflect unique styles and cultures of engineering.
What are the program fees?
$1180 + international airfare (est. $1800) + minor incidental expenses
