William C. W. Mow
I credit much of my success to the emphasis my family placed on education when I was a child...

William C. W. Mow worked at Honeywell, Incorporated before coming to Purdue to complete a Ph.D. under the direction of Professor King-Sun Fu. Upon graduation in 1967, Mow became program manager at Litton Industries and just two years later founded Macrodata, which designed and manufactured design and test instruments for semiconductor circuits. In just five years, the company reached sales of approximately $12 million annually and counted most of the world's major semiconductor manufacturers as customers. Mow made a public stock offering in the mid-70s and a large conglomerate gained a controlling interest in the company.

Mow sought capital by founding another company in a totally different market niche, boys' clothing. Founded as Buckeroo International, the company achieved such success that Mow has remained as president of the privately-held company, now renamed Bugle Boy. Applying his electronics expertise to management and design, Mow directed the purchase of computers and helped develop the software to revamp the company's management information systems. Computer prepared designs are sent electronically to production facilities, stock is monitored, and sales and delivery schedules are coordinated through the system. Using this technological advantage, Mow doubled the size of the company every year from 1985 to 1990 and by 1989 was the number one marketer of young men's casual clothing with sales of approximately $500 million through more than 2,500 U.S. retail outlets. Now concentrating on expanding overseas markets, Mow's goal is worldwide annual sales of $1 billion!
