Two alumni of Purdue University’s College of Engineering are among three Purdue-connected engineers newly elected to the National Academy of Engineering (NAE).

Fred Mannering and Milo Riverso are in the NAE class of 2026, which also includes Mung Chiang, Purdue president and the Roscoe H. George Distinguished Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering, as well as the former John A. Edwardson Dean of the College of Engineering.

Mannering, MSCE ’79, is a professor of civil and environmental engineering and executive director of the Center for Urban Transportation Research at the University of South Florida, Tampa. During his time as a faculty member at Purdue (2001 to 2015), he served as head of civil engineering and later the Charles Pankow Professor of Civil Engineering. He received the Charles B. Murphy Outstanding Undergraduate Teaching Award and was inducted into the Book of Great Teachers.

The NAE commended him for his contributions to transportation engineering data science and innovations in highway safety analytics.

Riverso, MSCE ’82 and PhD CE ’84, is senior adviser to the president and the board of Manhattan University. He was previously the 21st president of Manhattan University, as well as president and chief executive officer of STV, a leader in providing construction management, engineering, architectural, planning and environmental services for transportation systems, infrastructure, buildings and other facilities. Purdue honored him with a Distinguished Engineering Alumni Award.

The NAE cited him for leadership in strategic development and management of engineering professional corporations, associations, and academic institutions.
