Radiation Interaction with Materials and Applications

Description (tentative): This course will introduce students to the fundamentals of radiation interaction with materials. The course covers the following topics: types of radiation (photons, electrons, neutrons and ions) and radiation sources, physical mechanisms of radiation interaction with solids, induced effects such as electronic excitations and ionization, atomic displacement damage, surface and interfacial damage in materials, sputtering, ion mixing, and applications in nuclear reactor materials, irradiation modification of materials and surfaces, and materials synthesis and deposition.
