Fu Zhao

Assistant Professor of Mechanical Engineering

Dr. Fu Zhao received his B.S in thermal engineering with a minor in environmental engineering and his M.S. in thermal engineering, from China's Tsinghua University. He also earned an M.S. in electrical engineering and a Ph.D. in mechanical engineering from the University of Michigan.

Before joining Purdue, Dr. Zhao worked as a post-doctoral research fellow in the Environmental and Sustainable Technologies (EAST) Laboratory at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. He also worked as a research engineer at the State Key Laboratory of Clean Energy in China, investigating the thermo-chemical upgrading of coal and biomass energy.

While at the University of Michigan, Dr. Zhao received the Department of Mechanical Engineering Fellowship Award and the Robert Caddell Memorial Fellowship Award. His current research interests focus on design for the environment, environmentally conscious manufacturing, industrial ecology, life cycle assessment, and alternative energy. He is also interested in developing web-based modules to streamline education in sustainable engineering at both the post-secondary level and P-12 level.
