The head of Purdue University’s Elmore Family School of Electrical and Computer Engineering was part of a delegation that recently traveled to Greece to sign a series of Memoranda of Understanding (MOU) with four leading research universities in Greece.

Dimitrios Peroulis, Michael and Katherine Birck Head of Electrical and Computer Engineering joined Purdue President Mung Chiang and counterparts at National Technical University of AthensNational and Kapodistrian UniversityDemocritus University of Thrace, and the University of Patras to finalize the agreements that will create vital academic, research and innovation collaboration among the partners and study abroad opportunities for Purdue students.

The STEM-focused MOUs mark the fourth international partnership that Purdue has announced over the past several weeks.

“We are excited to partner with like-minded Universities and companies in Greece,” said Peroulis. “We believe there are multiple opportunities for us to explore and we are committed to follow these discussions with activity agreements in the near future.”

Peroulis said discussions included many programs related to ECE areas, such as computer engineering, semiconductors, and electrical engineering. In addition, the delegation explored both on-campus and online education modalities as well as the possibilities of new degrees and credentials. That includes potential bilateral agreements for student mobility and faculty visits.

In addition to the academic partnerships, Chiang also signed an MOU with the American-Hellenic Chamber of Commerce, which has a membership of 750 companies throughout Greece. The purpose of the agreement is for Purdue to offer training for workforce development in Greece and also for companies and industry in Greece to partner with faculty at Purdue and pursue research and innovation.
