President & CEO, NXP Semiconductors
BSECE, 1992

Rafael Sotomayor (BSEE) is President and Chief Executive Officer of NXP Semiconductors, a global leader in semiconductor solutions for the automotive, industrial, and IoT markets. He oversees NXP's worldwide business lines, sales, manufacturing operations, China operations, and research and development, and has been a member of the company's executive management team since 2020. A 30-year veteran of the semiconductor industry, Rafael has been the principal architect of NXP's strategy to lead the next era of intelligent edge systems — bringing compute, security, and connectivity together to enable software-defined vehicles, smarter factories, and an increasingly autonomous physical world. Before being named CEO, he served as Executive Vice President and General Manager of NXP's Secure Connected Edge business, and previously held senior roles at Broadcom, Motorola, and Intel. He holds an MBA from Harvard Business School, an MSEE from Georgia Tech, and a BSEE from Purdue University, where the Boilermaker engineering culture of rigor, curiosity, and grit shaped the leader he became.

Born of Mexican roots and shaped by the values that came with them, Rafael lives in Orange County, California, with his wife, Cynthia. Together they raised three sons. Outside the office, he is an active reader and lifelong learner who believes deeply that great leaders — and great engineers — must be well-rounded human beings. He is also a passionate home cook, less for the food itself than for what cooking represents: a way to bring people together across cultures and generations. "Time is the most generous gift one can offer another person, and cooking for someone is a genuine way to express gratitude for the relationship."
