Enrique Iglesia

Neil Armstrong Distinguished Visiting Fellow (2019-2023)

At the time of his appointment, Enrique Iglesia was a distinguished professor and the Theodore Vermeulen Chair in chemical engineering at the University of California, Berkeley. His research addresses the design, synthesis, and structural and mechanistic characterization of inorganic solids useful as catalysts for chemical reactions important in the production, conversion, and use of energy carriers, in sustainable petrochemical syntheses, and the protection of the environment. He is a member of the National Academy of Engineering, the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, and the National Academy of Inventors. He has received several awards for his contributions to chemistry and chemical engineering. Most recently, he received the 2019 Michel Boudart Award for Advancement in Catalysis and the American Institute of Chemical Engineers’ William H. Walker Award for Excellence in Contributions to Chemical Engineering Literature.

Iglesia worked with faculty and students involved with the Center for Innovative and Strategic Transformation of Alkane Resources (CISTAR). He engaged CISTAR in research, industry innovation, entrepreneurship, and educational activities. In October 2023, he joined Purdue as a full-time faculty member, appointed as the Michel Boudart Distinguished Professor of Chemical Engineering.

Dr. Iglesia's Impact

  • “He is the world expert in catalytic hydrocarbon chemistry, the core area of CISTAR, and was especially valuable in discussing results and guiding potential industrial applications. In addition to his encyclopedic technical knowledge, he has vast experience from consulting for major corporations worldwide.”

-Fabio Ribeiro, the William Nicholas and Elizabeth Holstein Professor of Chemical Engineering

  • “I came into the NADVP program expecting to influence Purdue with my own ideas and researdh plans. Instead, Purdue influenced mine and allowed me to learn from its own energy ecosystem.”

-Enrique Iglesia, the Michel Boudart Distinguished Professor of Chemical Engineering
