Jackson Fogelquist

Jackson Fogelquist earned a bachelor’s degree (2017) and a master’s degree (2019), both in mechanical engineering, from San Jos State University. Currently, he is a PhD student in mechanical and aerospace engineering at the University of California, Davis. Earlier this year, he completed the Seminar on College Teaching from the Center for Educational Effectiveness, and in 2018, he was certified as an Engineer-in-Training through the State of California’s Department of Consumer Affairs. His research centers on developing and parameterizing high-fidelity lithium-ion battery models to improve safety, performance, and diagnosis. As a future faculty member, he will broaden his work to address energy system hybrid modeling, multi-spatial modeling, and data visualization in engineering. Since joining UC Davis, he has published nine papers and was selected to give an invited talk at the Modeling, Estimation and Control Conference (MECC) in the competitive Rising Stars session. For the upcoming MECC, he is a member of the leadership team organizing a diversity-centric student networking and career event. Fogelquist has familiarized himself with the barriers faced by international students, and he welcomes new members to his lab by organizing group dinners and social events and assisting with onboarding. His teaching philosophy is three-pronged: contextualize engineering principles for effectiveness; promote learning through doing; and mandate inclusivity for students to flourish.
