Nina Mahmoudian

Associate Professor of Mechanical Engineering

Dr. Mahmoudian earned her bachelor’s degree in aerospace engineering from Tehran Polytechnic, Iran, and her Ph.D. in aerospace engineering from Virgnia Tech. She completed a postdoctoral fellowship in aerospace engineering at the University of Maryland. She was featured as an Emerging Scholar by Diverse: Issues in Education magazine (2016), and is the recipient of the National Science Foundation Faculty Early Career Development Award (2015) and the Office of Naval Research Young Investigator Program Award (2015).

Her research interests include robotics, marine robotics, unmanned systems, energy autonomy, systems design, and coordination and controls. She is working on developing innovative practical solutions for control of individual and multiple autonomous vehicles in harsh dynamic environments, addressing challenges that currently limit the use of autonomous vehicles in unknown complex situations.
