Yunlin Xu

Assistant Professor of Nuclear Engineering

Dr. Xu received his bachelor’s (1990) and master’s (1991) degrees in nuclear engineering from Tsinghua University, China, and his Ph.D. (2004) in nuclear engineering and his master’s degree (2006) in computer science, both from Purdue.

Before joining Purdue in August 2018, he served as an adjunct associate professor at the University of Michigan and worked in principal research engineering at Argonne National Laboratory, Lemont, Ill.

Dr. Xu’s research focus is in the areas of reactor physics and computer science for a diverse set of applications, including nuclear reactor design and safety analysis, advanced nuclear fuel cycles, numerical methods and homeland security. In particular, Xu’s technical expertise lies in advanced neutronics codes, such as PARCS, DeCart and MPACT, and multi-physics coupled codes like TRACE and RELAP5.
