Davin Piercy

Davin Piercy

Assistant Professor of Materials Engineering and Mechanical Engineering

Dr. Piercy earned his Ph.D. from the Ludwig-Maximilian University of Munich, Germany, and conducted postdoctoral research at Los Alamos National Laboratory, New Mexico.

He has applied his knowledge of energetic materials in industry for the scale up of energetic materials syntheses and has served as an energetic materials consultant to the German television show Galileo. He has published 28 peer-reviewed publications, holds four patents, has written two book chapters, and his work has been featured in ARS Tehnica and Chemistry World.

His research focuses on the rational design of new energetic molecules with tailored explosive properties, new syntheses of high-nitrogen heterocycles and the chemistry of high-nitrogen compounds. Dr. Piercy has extensive experience with the safe handling of explosives and energetic materials of all sensitivity classes and has trained numerous others in this art.
