Mario Ventresca

Assistant Professor of Industrial Engineering

Mario Ventresca was most recently a postdoctoral fellow in the Medical Operations Research Laboratory in the Department of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering at The University of Toronto, as well as an adjunct professor of computer science at Brock University. From 2009-2011 he was a postdoctoral research associate at The University of Cambridge in the Centre for Pathogen Evolution, a World Health Organization Collaborating Centre for Modeling, Evolution and Control of Emerging Infectious Diseases.

He obtained his Ph.D. in systems design engineering in 2009 from the University of Waterloo, and he has an undergraduate and a master’s degree in computer science.

Ventresca’s research interests include the design, analysis and application of computational and mathematical approaches to solve challenging optimization problems and to understand real and artificial complex systems. His current focus is on applications to pandemic-disease mitigation, the coevolution of infectious diseases and the immune system, and the automatic inference of complex network growth algorithms.
