Karen Marais
Assistant Professor of Aeronautics and Astronautics
Karen Marais holds a bachelors degree in electrical and electronic engineering from the University of Stellenbosch and a bachelors degree in mathematics from the University of South Africa. She earned her master's and PhD degrees from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Her research interests include safety analysis and risk assessment of complex socio-technical systems in general, and aerospace systems in particular. In addition, Dr. Marais conducts research on the environmental impact of aviation within the FAA PARTNER Centre of Excellence, and is currently growing her research platform to include maintenance and operations of engineering systems.
