Thanos Tzempelikos
Assistant Professor of Civil Engineering
Dr. Thanos Tzempelikos received his B.Sc. in physics in 1999 from the National University of Athens, Greece, where he specialized in building physics. He continued his graduate studies in the Department of Building, Civil and Environmental Engineering at Concordia University in Montreal, Canada, where he completed his M.A.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees in building engineering. Dr. Tzempelikos' field of expertise is design of energy-efficient buildings, including thermal performance of building envelope, daylighting, building simulation, solar buildings, automated shading/lighting controls, and renewable energy technologies.
From 2006 to 2008, he worked as a postdoc fellow and research associate at the Solar Buildings Research Network, a five-year collaborative research organization between ten Canadian universities. Dr. Tzempelikos has received several scholarships and awards, including the ASHRAE graduate fellowship in 2003 and the Concordia University Engineering Doctoral Prize in 2005. He has more than 25 publications in international journals and conferences and serves as a reviewer for three journals. During the last five years, he has also worked as a building energy consultant for major architectural and engineering firms in Canada and the U.S.
