Xiulin Ruan

Assistant Professor of Mechanical Engineering

Dr. Xiulin Ruan received his B.S. with honors and M.S. from the Department of Engineering Mechanics at Tsinghua University. He also received an M.S. in electrical engineering and a Ph.D. in mechanical engineering from the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor. At Michigan, he was a recipient of the Rackham Graduate School Predoctoral Fellowship, the College of Engineering Distinguished Achievement Award, and the Outstanding Graduate Student Instructor Award.

Dr. Ruan's research interests focus on nanoscale heat transfer and energy conversion, which include nano-structured photonics, optoelectonics, and photovoltaics; laser spectroscopy of nanostructures; thermal radiation in nanostructures; multi-scale simulations of materials; and thermoelectric materials and nanostructures.
