Venkatesh M. Merwade

Venkatesh M. Merwade

Assistant Professor of Civil Engineering

Dr. Merwade received his B.Engg. in environmental engineering from Shivaji University in India, his M.S. in engineering hydrology from the National University of Ireland, and his Ph.D. in civil engineering from University of Texas at Austin.

He worked for Montgomery Watson Harza (MWH) in India as a project engineer and as a post-doctoral fellow at the Center for Research in Water Resources at the University of Texas at Austin.

Dr. Merwade's research involves application of geographic information systems (GIS) in water resources engineering with a specific focus on river channels. As a part of his Ph.D. dissertation, he developed a model called River Channel Morphology Model (RCMM), which creates an analytical three-dimensional description of river channel bathymetry. His other areas of interests include cyberinfrastructure and the use of high quality terrain and remote sensing data for hydrologic and hydraulic modeling.
