A student in Purdue University’s Elmore Family School of Electrical and Computer Engineering has been published in The Cornerstone Review. Jade Mees earned her BSEE from Purdue ECE in May 2022. The Cornerstone Review publishes the best literary, critical, and artistic accomplishments of Purdue’s undergraduate students enrolled in Transformative Texts (SCLA 101 and 102).

Mees’ essay, “My Grandfather’s Book,” was completed as part of Professor Joan Timoneda’s SCLA 102 class (Transformative Texts II). It was inspired by a book in German given to Mees by her grandfather and demonstrates that even unknown books can be significant. She learns to read German and realizes that each chapter of the book contains her family’s history, starting with her grandfather’s experiences as a Jewish boy growing up in Nazi Germany. Mees’ essay won first place in the Spring 2022 Cornerstone Contest.
