Saurabh Bagchi, professor in Purdue University’s Elmore Family School of Electrical and Computer Engineering has been recognized as one of the charter members of the IEEE Computer Society’s Distinguished Contributor Recognition Program. New in 2021, the program is designed to recognize members’ contributions to the IEEE Computer Society as well as other accomplishments and achievements to the computing profession. Bagchi is one of 52 charter members inducted into the program in the 2021-22 cycle.

Induction into the Distinguished Contributors status is based on review by an IEEE committee of the applicant’s contributions in the areas of: Awards and Keynotes, Publications, Standards, Patents, working groups, government advisory, Presentations, Tutorials and Training, and Corporate Contributions. This is designed as a recognition program and is not an IEEE member grade.

The program was started by the IEEE Computer Society to showcase the immense combined technical expertise and innovation power of its membership. This complements the IEEE Fellow Program which is run at the overall IEEE level.

Bagchi serves on the IEEE Computer Society Board of Governors for the 2022-25 term. He is the Director of the CRISP Research Center and the PI of the Army Research Lab’s A2I2 Institute at Purdue. Bagchi’s research interests are in reliability and security of distributed computing systems.
