Dionysios Aliprantis, professor in Purdue University’s Elmore Family School of Electrical and Computer Engineering, has been named the Editor-in-Chief of the IEEE Transactions on Energy Conversion. The publication focuses on both research and application-oriented articles dealing with the development, design, operation, modeling, analysis, diagnostics and control of electrical equipment used to convert any kind of energy (such as mechanical, chemical and solar) into electrical energy and vice versa.

Aliprantis says he is truly honored and humbled to be appointed Editor-in-Chief of one of the most well-known journals publishing state-of-the-art papers about rotating electric machinery and other energy conversion apparatus, including batteries and photovoltaic systems, where the newest research findings and industry developments are disseminated to the broader community.

“Interest in this area has sky-rocketed recently with our society's move towards the electrification of the transportation sector and the ever-growing penetration of renewable energy resources in our power grid,” says Aliprantis. “I have been passionate about electric power engineering since my undergraduate days, and in this role I intend to provide an important service to the field and to the thousands of engineers working tirelessly to make our world a better place."

Aliprantis has been an Associate Editor of the journal for several years. A selection committee comprised of seven Power & Energy Society (PES) Editors-in-Chief and chaired by the PES VP Publications interviewed and selected him for Editor-in-Chief out of eight candidates expressing interest. The new role is effective November 1, 2022.
