"I feel very fortunate to have attended Purdue for my undergraduate education. As a student, it was not obvious to me how lucky I was to be exposed to the quality of teaching in the ECE department. However, that quality of undergraduate training was very apparent once I entered graduate school at Stanford and found myself extremely well prepared in comparison with other students from other universities. Then I could fully appreciate the quality of teaching, diversity of course material and depth of content that I received at Purdue. V.K. Jones (BSEE ’90) is a vice president of technology at Qualcomm Incorporated where he leads the Wireless LAN (WiFi) System Engineering organization. His team is responsible for PHY and MAC architecture, signal processing algorithm design, 802.11 standardization and system integration and testing. Dr. Jones came to Qualcomm in 2006 through the acquisition of Airgo Networks Incorporated, a company he co-founded in 2001. At Airgo, he was the vice president for DSP and ASIC design and later chief scientist and executive director of communication systems. Airgo Networks was a leader in ASIC and system designs for high-speed wireless LAN (WiFi) and is recognized as the company that designed and sold the world’s first consumer MIMO products.

Prior to Airgo Networks, Dr. Jones was chief scientist and co-founder of Clarity Wireless, which was acquired by Cisco Systems in 1998. He subsequently helped establish the first wireless business unit at Cisco. Clarity Wireless, and later Cisco Systems, were both leaders in broadband wireless products for high-speed backhaul and last-mile data access. Prior to founding Clarity Wireless, Dr. Jones served as acting assistant professor of mechanical engineering at Stanford University, where he earned his MSEE and PhD in 1991 and 1995, respectively.
