Xiulin Ruan

Xiulin Ruan, a professor of mechanical engineering, developed what Guinness World Records recognized as the world’s whitest paint. Ruan dedicated six years to this project in his laboratory, aiming to address global warming. If applied to 1,000 square feet of a roof, this white paint is estimated to provide cooling power of 10 kilowatts, surpassing the cooling capacity of most current home air conditioners. Among accolades, Time cited the innovation as one of the Best Inventions of 2023, Fast Company hailed it with a 2023 World Changing Ideas Award, and Newsweek listed it in 2023 as one of Five Tech Inventions That Could Help Save the Planet.
