Inventor of the first electronic TV receiver and founder of Indiana’s first TV station

Roscoe H. George
Roscoe H. George graduated with bachelor’s and master’s degrees in electrical engineering in 1922 and 1927, respectively. A prolific inventor, George obtained more than 30 patents. In 1929, he created the first electronic television receiver. In 1931, he established W9XG, Indiana’s first TV station. And in 1940, he earned patents for his television system, a method for reviewing infrared systems, and a cathode ray tube. George was a professor in Purdue’s electrical engineering program for more than 40 years, retiring in 1965.
