Walmart’s EVP and CIO

Karenann “Kat” Terrell earned her master’s degree in electrical engineering in 1988. Following graduation, she commenced her career at General Motors as an engineer and held various roles for 12 years. In 2000, Terrell transitioned to Chrysler as director of e-business. Over the years, she ascended the ranks to chief information officer for Chrysler Group and Mercedes Benz North America. In 2006, Terrell joined Baxter International as corporate vice president and CIO. She then moved to Walmart in 2010, serving as executive vice president for information systems before being promoted to EVP and CIO in 2012. During her tenure at Walmart, Terrell led a global team of more than 5,000 technologists. From 2017 to 2021, she served as GlaxoSmithKline’s chief digital and technology officer. Purdue recognized Terrell with a Distinguished Engineering Alumna Award in 2015.
