Key contributor to development of Segway PT and Tesla’s Model 3
J. Douglas “Doug” Field, a 1987 mechanical engineering bachelor’s degree recipient, has blazed a career marked by innovation and leadership at the forefront of technology. At Segway, Field played a crucial role in creating the Segway PT, a groundbreaking self-balancing human transporter. His contributions continued at Apple, where he served as vice president of special projects and helped develop several iconic consumer Mac products. Later, as Tesla's vice president of vehicle programs, Field led creation of the highly acclaimed Model 3 electric vehicle. Currently, at Ford Motor Company, he serves as chief EV, digital and design officer, spearheading development of Ford's EV portfolio. Purdue honored Field with a Distinguished Engineering Alumnus Award in 2015.
