Charles Alton Ellis
Charles Alton Ellis, a civil engineering professor at Purdue from 1934 to 1946, contributed significantly to the design of San Francisco's Golden Gate Bridge. The American Society of Civil Engineers cited the Golden Gate Bridge as one of the "Seven Wonders of the Modern World" in 1994, highlighting its engineering significance. In 2012, as part of the bridge's 75th anniversary celebrations, a plaque was placed on the bridge to memorialize Ellis and his contributions.
