Highest-ranking woman in the FBI

Amy S. Hess earned a bachelor’s degree in aeronautics and astronautics in 1989. She began her career at the FBI in 1991 as a special agent and dedicated 29 years to the organization. Throughout her tenure, Hess held various notable roles, including a deployment to Afghanistan to support counterterrorism operations, as well as leadership positions in the Inspection Division; International Operations Division; National Security Branch; and Operational Technology Division at Quantico, Virginia. In 2016, she was appointed special agent in charge of the Louisville, Kentucky, field office. In 2019, Hess reached a major milestone when she was appointed executive assistant director of the FBI's Criminal Cyber Services Branch, becoming the highest-ranking woman in the organization. Purdue recognized her with a Distinguished Engineering Alumna Award in 2017.
