Researchers running demanding computations, especially for projects like infectious disease modeling that need to be re-run frequently as new data becomes available, rely on supercomputers to run efficiently with as few failures of the software as possible. Purdue quantum research receives Department of Defense funding

Research into quantum techniques to more quickly detect explosives and exotic types of quantum camouflage have received funding from the U.S. Department of Defense’s 2020 Multidisciplinary University Research Initiative (MURI) program. The four faculty members who have been awarded projects in the competitive funding program are members of the Purdue Quantum Science and Engineering Institute in Purdue's Discovery Park.

Apply by July 31st for ECE's online and project-based master's degree programs

Purdue University’s School of Electrical and Computer Engineering is accepting applications through July 31, 2020 for its online MSECE and Project-track master’s degree programs that begin in Fall 2020. Both options result in the same degree earned by students on Purdue’s West Lafayette campus, with the same courses taught by the same faculty.

Study: Football offensive linemen should start plays upright to avoid hits to the head

Repetitive hits to the head can cause brain damage without actually leading to a concussion, past studies have suggested. Just a simple change to the starting stance of players on the offensive line in American football might reduce this burden, a study conducted by Purdue University and Stanford University researchers now shows.

Purdue alumnus receives EDAA Outstanding Dissertation Award

A Purdue ECE alumnus has been selected to receive the EDAA Outstanding Dissertation Award 2019 in recognition research done as a PhD student at Purdue. Ahmedullah Aziz received his PhD ECE in 2019. His dissertation was entitled “Device-Circuit Co-design Employing Phase Transition Materials for Low Power Electronics.”

ECE grad students recognized for outstanding teaching, research, service

Eight ECE graduate students were recipients of the 2020 Magoon Excellence in Teaching Award - Md Faizul Bari, Stanley Richard Doerger, Tulasi R. Haritsa, Guan Zhe Hong, Mingxuan He, Somosmita Mitra, Amritha Prasad, and Steve Rausch. The honor recognizes outstanding teaching assistants in memory of Estus H. and Vashti L. Magoon who influenced the lives of many engineering educators early in their careers through this award.

ECE grad student invited to 70th Lindau Nobel Laureate Meetings

Soham Saha, a graduate student in Purdue's School of Electrical and Computer Engineering, has been selected to attend the prestigious 70th Lindau Nobel Laureate Meetings, an invitation-only gathering in Lindau, Germany. Saha is among more than 600 young scientists from 101 countries chosen to attend the gathering.

Prof. Hong Tan, co-authors, win IEEE Transactions on Haptics Best Paper Award

A paper written by Purdue ECE Prof. Hong Tan and her PhD student Juan Sebastian Martinez has been selected for the IEEE Transactions on Haptics Best Paper Award 2020. The paper, entitled "A Phonemic-Based Tactile Display for Speech Communication," was co-authored by Charlotte Reed (MIT) and Purdue ECE alumnus Ali Israr, who is now with Facebook.
