Three faculty from Purdue University’s Elmore Family School of Electrical and Computer Engineering have earned designations on Clarivate’s 2023 list of Highly Cited Researchers (HCR).

Clarivate, a global web analytics company, identified 6,849 Highly Cited Researchers in 2023 from more than 1,300 institutions in 67 nations and regions. The methodology draws on data from the Web of Science citation index with analysis performed by bibliometric experts and data scientists at the Institute for Scientific Information at Clarivate.

Purdue ECE Professors Alexander Kildishev, Vladimir Shalaev, and Peide “Peter” Ye are among the 2023 HCR honorees.

This is the third time Kildishev has been named to the list, having also been part of the 2018 and 2022 HCR classes. He was recognized for cross-field impact. His research focuses on modeling nanophotonics devices, optical metamaterials, and transformation optics.

Shalaev, the Bob and Anne Burnett Distinguished Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering, is an HCR for the seventh time. He was previously on the list in 2017, 2019, 2020, 2021, and 2022. Shalaev was recognized for his impact in the field of physics. He specializes in nanophotonics, plasmonics, and optical metamaterials.

Ye, the Richard J. and Mary Jo Schwartz Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering, was also recognized for cross-field impact in his third appearance on the HCR list. Ye also received the honor in 2017 and 2019. He is known for his field-defining work in synthesizing and applying novel electronic materials to achieve record device performance.

The Highly Cited Researchers’ names are drawn from the publications that rank in the top 1 percent by citations for field and publication year in the Web of Science citation index, and the list identifies the research institutions and countries where they are based.

Purdue ECE faculty have made numerous appearances on the HCR list since its inception in 2014, including:

  • David Love (2014, 2015)
  • Mark Lundstrom (2014)
  • Supriyo Datta (2015)
  • Alexandra Boltasseva (2020, 2021, 2022)
