Dean Jamieson will be inducted into the 2011 class at a ceremony on October 1st at the academy's headquarters in Cambridge, Massachusetts. It is one of the nation's oldest and most prestigious honorary societies.

The award provides three years of graduate research funding. Last year only 20 awards were given in the area of electrical engineering across the country.

Professors Dimitrios Peroulis and Y. Charlie Hu have been selected as University Faculty Scholars for the 2011 academic year. Recipients are selected from nominees who are either tenured associate professors or full professors who have been in that rank for no more than five years.

One ECE faculty was promoted to Professor and six were promoted to Associate Professor. The promotions are effective with the 2011-12 academic year.

His paper is titled "Layered H-Matrix Based LU Factorization of Significantly Reduced Complexity for Direct Finite-Element-Based Computation of Large-Scale Electromagnetic Problems". Haixin Liu is supervised by Professor Dan Jiao.

He was chosen for showing great achievement in the academic arena and dedicated service to the National Society of Black Engineers and his campus community. He has received the Golden Torch Award and a scholarship in the amount of $2,500.

David Wolf, a NASA mission specialist who has flown on four space shuttle missions, will receive the honor during an awards dinner April 14 at the Broadmoor Hotel in Colorado Springs, Colorado. He received a bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering in 1978 and a doctorate of medicine from Indiana University in 1982.

The award was for Professor Weiner's seminal contributions to ultrafast optical signal processing, including development of ultrashort pulse arbitrary waveform generation technology and its applications.

A new online learning tool created by ECE Professor Jason Vaughn Clark and other researchers has been shown to improve the performance of engineering students taking traditional in-class exams, raising their scores more than a letter grade.
