Metals are widely used throughout the fields of plasmonics and metamaterials owing to their unique focusing capabilities. Research has now shown that doped, low-loss semiconductors compatible with standard nanoelectronic fabrication processes could outperform metals in certain applications.

Caleb Fulton was awarded the Gomac conference Meritorious Paper Award for his work on "The Purdue Digital Array Radar Testbed". This work is a collaboration between Professors William Chappell and Vijay Pai, and is sponsored by Cerdec.

On October 29, 2010 Professor Gerhard Klimeck, along with George Adams, NCN Associate Director, and David McKinnis, Director of the Technical Assistance Program, presented nanoHUB.org and Purdue's HUBzero technology to the White House.

Professor Clark received this award in the amount of $10,000 for his invention of self-calibratable force-displacement microsensors.
