PhD Student Yu Chen Wu has won the second-place award in the 2017 IEEE International Microwave Symposium (IMS 2017) Student Design Competition: Wideband Baluns. The competitors were required to design, construct, and test a passive wideband balun covering the widest possible frequency range below 1 GHz.

The IMS is the flagship conference of the Microwave Theory and Techniques Society and is attended by more than 9,000 people every year. The Student Design Competition (SDC) is one of the most energetic parts of IMS. The SDCs have proven to be very successful events in the past twelve years, as evidenced by the ever increasing student participation and support from organizers.
