Outstanding students. Innovative faculty. Dedicated researchers. There are many reasons that Purdue’s Weldon School of Biomedical Engineering is considered one of the premier programs in the world. It all comes down to our primary mission — to deliver world-changing scientific discoveries and prepare tomorrow’s biomedical engineering leaders.

Dynamic growth, innovative impact

For the Weldon School of Biomedical Engineering, it's a time of dynamic growth and innovative impact as we continue to solve an expanded set of health care problems and improve patients' lives across the globe.

We ushered in a new era of leadership in the spring of 2015, as the Purdue Board of Trustees approved the promotion to full professor for six faculty members. They are each recognized innovators in their fields.

We have also grown our faculty; in the past three years we have hired 12 new faculty members— an unprecedented number.

Our faculty members have been recognized for their innovative research.  Associate Head Pedro Irazoqui and his implantable devices group have been selected as one of Purdue Engineering's preeminent teams for research designated to strengthen and expand Purdue's engineering impact. Ji-Xin Cheng received a prestigious grant for his work to radically improve the way heart patients are diagnosed.

These are just a few examples of our dynamic growth and innovative impact. Read our Fast Facts to learn more.
