Jean Chmielewski, Professor of Biomedical Engineering and Alice Watson Kramer Distinguished Professor of Chemistry was one of five exceptional teachers at Purdue University selected to receive a Murphy Award. The following is an article that appeared in "Purdue Today."

Professor Young Kim has been notified that he will receive a Purdue Research Foundation Summer Faculty Grant.

Professor Gudrun Schmidt has been selected to receive a 2010 PRF Research Grant.

Lindsay Wendel, who recently completed her junior year in the Weldon School of Biomedical Engineering, has been selected to receive this year's Bruce Helfert Memorial Award.

Emily Gullotti, a graduate student in the Weldon School of Biomedical Engineering, has been selected as a P.E.O. Scholar.

Nimisha Bajaj, a graduating senior in the Weldon School of Biomedical Engineering, is the recipient of the 2009-2010 Flora Roberts Award, given to the outstanding senior woman. She will attend medical school in the fall.

A new biosensor developed by Weldon School of Biomedical Engineering faculty members can measure whether neurons are performing correctly when communicating with each other, giving researchers a tool to test the effectiveness of new epilepsy or seizure treatments.

Eric Nauman, Associate Professor of Biomedical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and Basic Medical Sciences, has been selected to receive the 2010 College of Engineering Early Career Research Excellence Award.

GlucaGo, the three-student Biomedship team of Rush Bartlett and Art Chlebowski (BME) and Peter Greco (Krannert), has been invited to the Global MOOT corp competition at the University of Texas in May. To qualify most competitors must win a semifinal competition. The Texas competition had three categories with three first place winners. "They had to pick one, in this case GlucaGo, to be the lead finalist," explains Bartlett. With a $135,000 first prize, "It is the SuperBowl of Business Plan competitions."

In its inaugural issue, the Journal of Cardiovascular Engineering and Technology has published an article written by Rebecca Roeder and Cindy Ferguson as a tribute to Dr. Leslie A. Geddes.
