New Modeling Approach Transforms Imaging Technologies

Researchers are improving the performance of technologies ranging from medical CT scanners to digital cameras using a system of models to extract specific information from huge collections of data and then reconstructing images like a jigsaw puzzle.

Weldon School Announces Award Winners at Annual Luncheon

Congratulations to six BME faculty, staff, and graduate students who received awards for outstanding achievements at the annual Biomedical Engineering Graduate Student Association (BMEGSA) luncheon. Five of the awards were School recognitions, while two awards were conferred by the BMEGSA. The School awardees were nominated by BME students, staff, and faculty members, and selected by the BME Awards Committee. Winners received a plaque and monetary award and will have their names placed on permanent plaques in the School’s administrative office.

BME Team Recipient of College of Engineering's Team Excellence Award

A three-member team consisting of James T. Jones, Engineering Resources Manager for the Weldon School of Biomedical Engineering; Kirk S. Foster, Senior Research Engineer for the Weldon School of Biomedical Engineering; and Jessica E. Huber, Associate Professor in the Department of Speech, Language and Hearing Sciences was selected for this year's College of Engineering Team Excellence Award. Their citation reads: "For outstanding ability to work as a team to integrate research and translation to produce a device that can improve the life of individuals affected by Parkinson’s disease." The team was nominated by John C. Hertig.

Norm Weldon Awarded Phoenix Lifetime Achievement Award

Purdue alumnus Norman Weldon, of Evergreen, Colo. and Amelia Island, Fla., is the recipient of the 2012 Phoenix Lifetime Achievement Award. Weldon was honored Oct. 14th during the annual Medical Device and Diagnostic Conference for Chief Executive Officers in Laguna Beach, Calif.
