Virtual environment makes Purdue’s real-life accessible biology wet lab available worldwide
Purdue faculty members and ITaP’s Envision Center for Data Perceptualization have developed a Web-enabled, 3-D virtual environment that recreates the real-life Accessible Biomedical Immersion Laboratory (ABIL) located at Purdue’s Discovery Learning Research Center.

Alyssa Panitch to Complete ELATE Program
Alyssa Panitch, professor and associate head of the Weldon School of Biomedical Engineering, will complete the rigorous Executive Leadership in Academic Technology and Engineering (ELATE) program next month. ELATE at Drexel™ is a national leadership development program designed to advance senior women faculty in science, technology, engineering, mathematics (STEM), and related disciplines into leadership roles within their universities.

Ji-Xin Cheng Primary Editor of New Book
Ji-Xin Cheng, a professor in the Weldon School of Biomedical Engineering, was primary editor of the new book "Coherent Raman Scattering Microscopy," published by the CRC Press. This is the first book on CRS Microscopy.

Daniel Song Memorial Scholarship Established
Through the generosity of Ping and Daphne Song, the Weldon School of Biomedical Engineering has received an endowment to establish the Daniel Song Memorial Scholarship. The scholarship celebrates the life of the Songs’ son, Daniel.
A 2008 graduate of the Weldon School of Biomedical Engineering, Daniel lost his life in an automobile accident December 20, 2008, while returning to campus to participate in graduation ceremonies the following day.

Weldon Students to Benefit from New Interpretation of Intellectual Property Rules for Students
Purdue University student inventors will own their innovations thanks to a new interpretation of the university's policy governing intellectual property. Weldon students on the Safe Pace team may be among the first to benefit from the change.

Prof. Eric Nauman Named Director, College of Engineering Honors Program
Eric Nauman, Associate Professor of Biomedical Engineering, has been named the new Director of the College of Engineering's Honors Program effective January 14, 2013. Dr. Nauman will be responsible for providing educational enrichment opportunities for the College of Engineering Honors students as well as developing a continuous quality improvement (CQI) model that will integrate the honors initiatives into the mainstream curriculum.
