Shelley Claridge wins prestigious NSF CAREER award

Shelley Claridge, assistant professor of chemistry and biomedical engineering, has received a Faculty Early Career Development (CAREER) Award from the National Science Foundation. CAREER Awards are considered one of the most prestigious for promising researchers in science and engineering.

Bahar Dhowan receives Martin C. Jischke Outstanding International Student of the Year Award

The 2017 Martin C. Jischke Outstanding International Student of the Year Award has been presented to Bahar Dhowan, a senior in the Weldon School of Biomedical Engineering. This award was established by president emeritus Martin C. Jischke to honor an international Purdue student who has helped the University welcome and connect people of all cultures. Honorees also must demonstrate excellence in scholarship, leadership, character and service.

In the news: Richard Borgens: Multiple Sclerosis Medicine Developer

Richard Borgens, the Mari Hulman George Professor of Applied Neuroscience in the College of Veterinary Medicine and a professor of biomedical engineering is featured in Purdue Today's "Inventors and Innovators" series. Borgens, in collaboration with Riyi Shi and Andrew Blight (former Purdue professor), developed the drug Ampyra, which has received approval from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration for improving motor function in patients with multiple sclerosis.

Woloshuk offered highly-competitive Fulbright U.S. Student Program grant

The prestigious Fulbright U.S. Student Program has offered Andre Woloshuk, a senior in Purdue's Weldon School of Biomedical Engineering, a grant to Poland. He is one of three Purdue University students to receive a grant offer. The Fulbright U.S. Student Program is the most renowned U.S. program for students and young professionals to forge ties to foreign countries. It operates in more than 140 countries and fully-funds a post-baccalaureate year abroad.

Phillips and Suresh win first place at Sigma Xi Poster Competition

Graduate students Elizabeth Phillips and Shruthi Suresh won first place at the 2017 Purdue University Chapter of Sigma Xi Graduate Student Poster Competition in the engineering sciences division. The students received their awards at the annual chapter banquet on April 12.
