PhD Annual Mentoring Meeting
PhD students are required to meet with their entire mentoring committee each year (fall, spring, or summer). This meeting will provide students an opportunity to discuss their current progress, future goals, individual development plans, or anything else necessary to support quality mentorship. Students will be assessed on the same criteria used during your qual exam which are outlined on the following rubric (minus the sections titled “Expectations for the Qualifying Exam” and “Overall Outcome”). The annual mentoring meeting is meant to be just a meeting. However, your faculty advisor may have specific ideas of what they expect during this meeting, so make sure you are communicating with them in regards to their expectations. When scheduling the meeting, students need to use a scheduling tool (like When2Meet) to schedule a mentoring meeting with your whole committee to occur before the end of the Spring Semester. If students complete a qualifying exam or preliminary exam during the year (fall or spring semester), that will satisfy this committee meeting requirement for that year. Students might choose to identify mentoring committee members which are different from the qualifying exam committee to more closely align with research mentorship needs as appropriate. Annual mentoring meetings must have a minimum of three (3) committee members present.
